Usher's mother died when he was young and in 1797 he and his father and brother moved to Hollis, where his father's brother lived.
The image comes from a book, "A Short Biographical Sketch of Ellis Baker Usher of Hollis, Maine" that his grandson, Ellis B. Usher of La Crosse, Wisconsin, wrote for the family in 1902.
His grandson wrote that Usher was "a man of high character, of large business affairs, for his day, of prominence in his community and throughout the state."
