Image Info Samuel Boyd (born 1834) had several locations in the late 1800s for his hardware business in Boothbay Harbor. This 1901 photograph of Boyd's storefront, possibly the 1881 building at what is now (in 2013) Grover's Hardware on Townsend Avenue, shows staples of the haying season prominently displayed near the door: scythes, hand rakes, and a pitchfork. Boyd also carried household items such as wash tubs, wash board, clothes wringer, and frying pan, as well as doors, windows, flooring, and paint. In addition to running his store, Boyd also built houses on spec and dabbled in real estate.
