Image Info The Menawarmet Hotel, named for a 1600s American Indian chief, was built on Boothbay Harbor's east side in 1889 by the Boston and Boothbay Land Company. It served tourists and prospective buyers of summer cottages and lots until 1913, when it burned.

The grounds included tennis, croquet, bowling, billiards, an orchestra, and a "Dutch room." Eight steamers per day stopped at the 130 foot long wharf, and a buckboard and sloop were used for daily excursions.
