Show Details
This tax record refers to an industrial building on Main Street in Bridgton, which was known as the Gibbs Mill when the survey was made, ca. 1938. The tax record was later updated to reflect ownership by Sebago Woolen Company, and, as of 2013, is now the site of Shorey Park. The card references a deed dated 1933; this is not the date of the photograph.
The building was constructed as a textile mill in 1857 by Rufus Gibbs and John Hall. Gibbs later bought out Hall. While in operation the mill turned out approximately 200-250 blankets a day and did a brisk business with the U.S. government during the Civil War. The mill was torn down in 1941.
