Show Details
There are many abandoned pits in Monson and the surrounding towns of Blanchard and Willimantic, most without fences or warnings of their existence. Trees and brush have grown up to the sides of the pit but every quarry does have a large mound of rubbish slate beside it. All the quarries are partially filled with water.
The caption across the bottom of this postcard reads "An Abandoned Slate Quarry, Monson, Me."
