Governor Hildreth named Marion Martin Commissioner of Labor and Industry in 1947. She held the post until her retirement in 1972. Martin was the founder of the National Federation of Republican Women. Martin had served two terms in the Maine House and two terms in the Maine Senate.
Hildreth (1901-1988), a Republican, was governor from 1945-1949.
O'Connell, of Bangor, was prominent in real estate and insurance, and active in Republican politics.
