The largest memorial to World War I veterans, the Memorial Bridge, which spans the Passagassawaukeag River in Belfast was completed in 1921. This bridge was eventually superseded by the new Veterans Memorial Bridge that routed traffic around Belfast, instead of through it, in 1963. Since then, the 1921 Veteran's Memorial Bridge has been used as a pedestrian bridge.

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1938 as part of their Maine series. These, and other postcards, by the Tichnor Brothers Company are officially known as the Tichnor Gloss Series because the photographs were notoriously retouched on such a level that does not allow the postcards to be classified as photographs or paintings. The caption reads, "Birdseye view of Belfast and Memorial Bridge, Belfast, Maine."
