H. W. Shaylor and his wife Augusta lived in Portland. Shaylor worked in the Portland Public Schools as a supervisor of penmanship and drawing. He developed a system of handwriting and wrote manuals on handwriting and drawing.
His son, H. W. Shaylor Jr., owned an engraving company in Portland and lived in Falmouth Forside with his wife, Rose, and daughter, Georgina.
