Image Info Charles I (1600–1649) was the King of England, Scotland, and Ireland beginning in 1625. Charles' rule was marked by a struggle for power between the King and the Parliament. He was not popular due to his interference in the English and Scottish churches and for levying taxes without parliamentary consent. His execution in 1649 increased the power of the Puritan Church in New England.
