The Portland Water District replaced an aging conduit from Sebago Lake to "provide the entire population between Biddeford and Brunswick with water for the next hundred years." A new intake was built deeper into the lake so water delivery wouldn't be disrupted when the lake was low. The construction started in July 1926 and was estimated at $350,000.

The December 9th edition of the "Portland Evening Express" devoted a full-page article to the project.
