Image Info General-in-Chief of the Armies of the United States (at the period of his commanding in Mexico). General Scott served in the United States Army and fought against the British in the War of 1812. In 1839 he was sent to resolve the border dispute between the Acadians and the settlers living in northern Maine near the St. John River. The dispute was dubbed "The Aroostook War" though no lives were lost. He met with the Governor of New Brunswick, John Harvey, and negotiated a peaceful settlement.
