Image Info Portland architect John Calvin Stevens designed the L.D.M. Sweat Memorial Gallery in 1911. This Beaux-arts style building, along with the McLellan House and the Charles Shipman Payson building, comprise the Portland Museum of Art campus.
Show Details
The building is named to honor politician Lorenzo De Medici Sweat (1818-1898). Following a bequest by Lorenzo's wife, arts patron Margaret Jane Mussey Sweat (1823-1908), the Portland Museum built the gallery.
