Image Info Cushing Island is a 266-acre island in Casco Bay and is part of the City of Portland. It is named after the Cushing family, whose residence of the island began with Lemuel Cushing in 1806. In the 1880s, Francis Cushing hired Frederick Law Olmsted to design the island as a summer colony. The island is now privately owned and is accessible only boat.
