Image Info Old Town’s Main Street developed from the 19th century onward into the hub of retail and business, with many stores and public buildings along the street. This postcard depicts some of the businesses along the street in the 1930s, including the First National Store and Cutler’s clothing store.

Israel Cutler, president of the town’s synagogue, was one of a group of Jewish merchants who opened stores in the downtown area of Old Town. Israel worked as a weaver for the Old Town Woolen Company before opening his own store by 1926. Cutler’s store on North Main Street sold clothing and advertised the latest women’s fashions.
The caption reads, "Main Street, Old Town, Maine."
