According to the book “200 Years of Lubec History 1776-1976,” “A very old map shows this house at 35 School Street as the residence of Jeremiah Fowler. Simeon Ryerson presumably bought it from him. Some time after the Civil War ownership passed to his oldest daughter Adelaide and her husband, A. B. Sumner. Through inheritance the house passed to Ryerson Johnson (1901-95), longtime writer specializing in pulp fiction. During a publishing career from 1926 to 1994 he wrote adventure stories, slick magazine articles, men’s magazine stories, mystery novels and short stories, and especially western fiction such as Mike Shane and Doc Savage novels.
