Image Info

The caption reads, "Carlton Bridge, Bath, Maine." The bridge, which opened in 1927, crossed the Kennebec River to connect Bath and Woolwich. Trains traveled on the lower deck and cars above. The center span could be raised to accommodate large vessels.

The automobile and pedestrian portion of the bridge was replaced in 2000 with the Sagadahoc Bridge. The old bridge remained, with only the railroad portion in use.

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1930-1945.
