The caption reads, "Stand Pipe at night, Bangor, Maine." The Thomas Hill Standpipe on the Thomas Hill Road in Bangor was built as a reserve water tower and fire watch tower. Built on the highest point in the city in 1897, it is 110 feet high, 85 feet wide and holds 1.75 million gallons of water.

The standpipe is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Tichnor Brothers printing company published this type of postcard circa 1930-1945.
