The photo shows the Iceboro section of Richmond. The train is stopped at the Iceboro station. The icehouse in the photo is in Dresden, across the Kennebec River.
The ice industry was in its heyday during the late 1800s along the Kennebec River.
Ice was cut and shipped south, even as far as Central America. Seasonal workers, such as farmers, depended on this thriving industry.
