In the early 1900s, Green Acre Inn hosted visitors and dignitaries to discuss religious and spiritual subjects in order to promote world peace, under the direction of Miss Sarah Farmer. 'Abdu'l-Baha, son of Baha'u'llah the Prophet-Founder of the Baha'i Faith, came to Green Acre in August of 1912. Miss Farmer had visited 'Abdu'l-Baha in Palestine a few years earlier and became a Baha'i.

'Abdu'l-Baha spoke of the unity of all mankind and the nature of the spirit. Residents of Eliot and visitors to Green Acre from out-of-state were welcomed to attend these talks.

Later in its history, Green Acre in Eliot served as the National Center for the Baha'is in the United States and Canada.
