Image Info Loggers and lumbermen stand at Pishon's Ferry in Clinton, surrounded by their work.
Show Details
This view shows the huge number of logs that were floated down the Kennebec River, the major method of getting lumber from the woods to the mills.
Because so many owners moved their lumber on the river, each owner branded their logs for identification. Much of the wood out of the Clinton area in the 1880s and 1890s went to a mill in Benton.
