Image Info The Old Orchard Beach pier was built in 1898. Building commenced on March 17, and the grand opening was on July 2. The end of the pier was swept away on December 4th, only 156 days after opening. A group of seven men were responsible for the initial construction of the 1,823 foot long structure, although it took nearly two years to get the project off the ground.
