Image Info This photograph shows what was left of downtown Old Orchard after the big fire of 1907. People are crowded on the pier, who had been trapped out there during the fire. Luckily, due to some quick thinking, men started ripping up the wooden planks on the pier so that the fire would not reach and destroy them too. Many men and women caught the train back to Boston with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Multiple hotels and businesses burned on August 15, 1907, many of which were never rebuilt.
