The members of this Americanization class were waiters at the Oriental Restaurant in Portland. They are, from left, teacher Clara Soule, Han Tong, Chee Wong, Henry Wong, Philip Dong, Dan Wong (Chin Poy Yuk), and George Wong.

Clara Soule was the director of Portland's Americanization program.

A story in the Maine Sunday Telegram on January 25, 1925 had the headline: "Director Americanization Local Schools Has Highest Praise for Chinese Students--Class Has 100 Percent Attendance Record--Group Making Rapid Educational Progress--Are Diligent Students."

The article also mentions a New Year dinner given by the students at the Oriental Restaurant for Soule and her family.
