This float commemorated the poem by Portland native Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, "The Village Blacksmith," which begins "Under the spreading chestnut-tree the village smithy stands ..." The Children's Hour poem was also featured, as seen nested inside The Village Blacksmith book.
The Maine Centennial Celebration was held June 26 to July 5, 1920.
