Image Info The American Can Company, founded by mergers of many small firms in 1901, celebrated its half century with 71 simultaneous dinners in 59 U.S. cities on March 20, 1951. Lubec’s dinner, attended by 130, honored Blanche Miller for her record-setting 46 years of employment. But 21 years later business had declined to a permanent closure of the Lubec facility. Another 23 years lapsed before demolition.
