The certificate indicates that the class was recognized for "carrying out a War Time Program of graduating exercises in keeping with the spirit and demands of these trying times" and "in appreciation of this service and of the spirit of sacrifice and loyalty thus manifested." The certificate was signed on June 12, 1918, by Carl E. Milliken, then governor of Maine.
