Image Info Large squares of ice float where they have been sawed from the rest of the sheet on the Saco River, 1908. These men were cutting ice north of the downtown Biddeford railroad bridge. There was a large ice storage barn along with a conveyor to hoist the giant blocks; a thriving ice industry existed on the Saco River right up until electric refrigeration became commonplace.
