Image Info Biddeford's first City Building, built in 1860, was seriously damaged by fire on December 30-31, 1894. When rebuilt its roofline and bell tower were much changed. Picture taken about 1888, shortly after the first electric street lights were put up in 1887, although the Main Street is not paved or cobbled. The curved corner of the Biddeford House hotel is on the left. The First National Bank occupies offices to the left, and the Post Office to the right. The sign on the second floor reads Hartford Fire Insurance Company.
