Image Info The American Can Company introduced machine-made “drawn” cans to the Lubec fish packing industry from a North Lubec plant in 1899, providing massive quantities for over two-thirds of the 20th century. The first plant burned in 1907, soon rebuilt along the Lubec Village waterfront. The flag assists dating this event, for it shows a 46-star pattern, in use from November, 1907 with the entry of Utah to the Union until July 4, 1912 when Arizona and New Mexico were added. This postcard is postmarked July 5, 1910. A close look will show the individuals seated on the water tank walkway, and the band with trombones and tuba below at the lower edge.
