Image Info This sepia-toned mounted photograph of the Sagadahoc County Courthouse in winter shows the formidable building designed by Bath native Francis H. Fassett (1823-1908). Sagadahoc County was set off from Lincoln County in 1854. Fassett appears to have been paid $700 for his work on the Courthouse at the intersections of High and Centre Streets. The design of the Italianate structure was begun in 1867 and finished in 1869. Fassett was responsible for a large number of buildings, commercial, residential, and institutional, in the city of Bath. To further his career, Fassett moved to Portland in the mid-1860s. He was one of, if not the most important architect in the state during the nineteenth century.
