This view was taken from River Hill, behind where the former prison stood, looking eastward toward lower Wadsworth Street. Workmen seem to be launching or retrieving a dock or work barge on the shore below the woman standing by the fence.

The large hip roofed house with two chimnies to the left of top center is the Monk Hatch or Humphrey House, which was removed around 1940.

To the right of top center smoke can be seen rising from the lime kiln at the base of Wadsworth Street, on the property of Dunn and Elliot. A portion of the tollbridge across the river can be seen the right of the kiln shed. Brown's Hill is on the right side of the photograph.
