In 1896 Thomaston selectmen purchased a building and moved it to a location behind the J. A. Creighton and Company Store for use of the Knox Hose Company.

This was on the former site of Montpelier, General Henry Knox's estate. It sat on the south side of the Knox and Lincoln railroad and served the area along the waterfront.

On March 29, 1937 the town voted to sell the building. At the time it was being used by factory employees at the Black and Gay Cannery. It was purchased by Captain I. E. Archibald, who moved the building to a lot near School and Hyler Streets, where he used it as a lumber warehouse. It was later torn down.
