Lubec School burned on November 26, 1913. According to the Lubec Herald, the fire began in the chemistry lab when containers of sodium and potassium were exposed to the air.

Five hundred students and other people evacuated the building in an orderly manner.

This hand-colored photographic postcard was typical of the era. Slight variations are apparent in multiple copies.
