Image Info North Lubec grammar school, ca. 1911. Myron Haliburton Avery, front row, third from left. Avery, a Lubec native, graduated from Bowdoin College and Harvard Law School and became an admiralty lawyer for the U.S. Navy. The first 2000 Miler of the Appalachian Trail, he was president of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club from 1927 to 1941 and chairman of the Appalachian Trail Conference from 1931 to his death in 1952. “Avery Peak” on the Appalachian Trail in Maine is named in his honor.
