The deck of the Androscoggin Pedestrian -- Swinging -- Bridge between Brunswick and Topsham is submerged and flipped over the suspension cables during the 1936 flood.

The suspension bridge was built in 1892 by the A.J. Roebling Sons Co. of New Jersey for the convenience of workers who lived in the new housing in Topsham Heights to get to jobs at the textile mill in Brunswick.

While the deck of the bridge was heavily damaged in the flood, the Roebling wire suspension cables survived and are still in use on the bridge.
