Salmon were stripped of their eggs and milt and the eggs artificially fertilized. Young salmon were kept in the rearing pens until mature enough to be released.
The hatchery was erected in 1901 on the Panther River (Jordan Run).
The hatchery moved to Casco in the 1950s.
