On May 3, 1923, Brimmer Bridge Reservoir Dam gave way, sending a wall of water down the Union River into the city of Ellsworth.

The structure had just been completed the week before by the Bangor Railway & Electric Company at a cost of $250,000.

This scene shows a building, advertising the Ellsworth Steam Laundry, being swept off of its foundation.

Damage to Ellsworth was estimated to be $300,000.
