Image Info The Abbe Museum at Sieur de Monts Spring was founded in 1927 by Dr. Robert Abbe and opened in what was then called Lafayette National Park (now Acadia National Park) on August 14, 1928. Some of the first supporters of the museum included George B. Dorr and John D. Rockefeller, Jr.

The museum has dioramas, eastern woodland native American artifacts including stone implements, basketry and beadwork.
September 29, 2001 the second Abbe Museum opened in downtown Bar Harbor where there are permanent and changing exhibits.
