The parlor in the Wadsworth-Longfellow house on Congress Street in Portland was kept as the best room for formal occasions.

Reading and musical events, marriages took place here and the treasured heirlooms of furnishings and art work were displayed in this room.

Anne Longfellow Pierce, sister of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, grew an ornamental orange tree in the corner. She died in 1901 and left the house to the Maine Historical Society.
