On August 14, 1779, Sir George Collier commanded a fleet of British warships and frigates approaching Penobscot Bay.
American ships were in place and battle commenced. The American navy had more ships, but the British had superior armaments and training and they were the victors.
This illustration appeared in the Naval Chronicle of London in 1814.
