Image Info York Manufacturing Company was built on Saco Island in 1831, after another textile mill had burned down. York Manufacturing milled cotton goods and in 1839 was operating three mills with 1,000 workers. In 1930 York Manufacturing was sold to New England Industries and became known as the York Division of Bates Manufacturing. In 1958 the factory was shut down.
