Image Info When he filled out the 1910 Census (the only one in which he appeared), Arthur R. Gould (ca. 1852- ) was living on Weeman St. in Springvale, working as a flagman at the Springvale Depot. Note the chain of what is likely Mr. Gould's pocket watch. The hut behind Mr. Gould was at the intersection of the railroad tracks and Pleasant Street. Behind the hut is a water tower, a common sight in the days of steam locomotives. The long siding over the Mousam River can be seen in the background. The steep grade between Springvale and Deering Pond was so difficult that a helper engine was added. Heavy freights had to get up considerable speed to climb Deering Hil on the run to Rochester.
