Image Info

Harvesting hay on the Tarr farm, Castle Hill. Pictured are Arthur Tarr, Hiram McGlinchey (about age 16), Arthur Moore, and Linton Tarbell. The hay loader manufacturer, "New Deere," is stenciled on the side.

Hay was first cut and windrowed with a dump rake. When the hay had dried sufficiently to store in a barn the wagon and hay loader were pulled over and along the windrow. The windrowed hay can be seen under the wagon. The hay loader picked up the hay and loaded it on the wagon. The workers on the wagon distributed the hay and stomped it down to compress it.
