The monoplane, Pride of Detroit, leaving Old Orchard Beach for Newfoundland in August 1927.

It was the first plane to attempt a transatlantic flight from Old Orchard Beach.

The pilot was Edward F. Schlee; William Stewart Brock was the observer. They made it as far as Japan, then aborted the rest of the trip due to poor weather over the Pacific.
