Image Info The McLellan-Sweat House at Spring and High streets in Portland, built in 1801, was designed by John Kimball Sr.
Show Details
Shipping magnate Hugh McLellan was the first owner. Asa Clapp bought the house for his son, Charles, in 1817 when McLellan's fortunes waned. Clapp descendants later sold it to Col. Lorenzo de Medici and Margaret Jane Mussey Sweat.
The Sweats left it to the Portland Society of Art, now the Portland Museum of Art.
