Show Details
The skiers, from left, are Sam Ouellette, Ashland; Buck Ostlund, New Sweden; Cloren Nute, Lincoln; Bob Johnson, Caribou; and Walter Stadig, Soldier Pond.
The skiers skied in slush over roads that were partly bare. This resulted in wet feet causing many of the racers to drop out of the race.
Bob Johnson won the 1936 race. A native of New Sweden and a member of the New Sweden Athletic Club, he moved to Caribou where he started the Caribou Ski Club and the Bangor to Caribou Marathon Ski Race as part of the Caribou Winter Carnival.
Sam Ouellete won the second and final race in 1937.
