Persis Sibley, 19, painted this theorem card. Sibley, who grew up in Freedom, taught school and had many intellectual interests. She married Charles Andrews, an Augusta lawyer, when she was 28.

Theorem painting, which was popular in the early nineteenth century, used a variety of stencils for each painting which allowed the painter to create vivid pictures.
