The country doctor of Springvale and surrounding towns for 48 years, Dr. Bragdon (1858-1939) attended his patients at all times of day or night and in all kinds of weather and was beloved by all who knew him. Those who came to him with imaginary ailments, left with a quantity of pink pills (said to contain sugar and not much else). They did no harm and were miraculous in bringing about speedy recoveries. His home stood next door to Harmon G. Allen's house, later the home of Capt. and Mrs. Albert L. Prosser. Pence's insurance office and Upper Story Bookshop later occupied the site. The house the the right was the home of Capt. Edmund G. Murray who owned a livery stable located to the rear of his home. Murray received his military rank in the Civil War. He was twice wounded at the Battle of Petersburg and was promoted to Captain for gallantry in action.
