Image Info John Marshall Brown (1838-1907), son of sugar magnate John Bundy Brown, grew up in Portland. He attended Gould Academy, Philips Andover, and Bowdoin College, where he graduated in 1860. After military service in the American Civil War, Brown worked for his family firm J.B. Brown & Sons, and managed a farm at his Thornhurst estate in Falmouth Foreside.
