Image Info Constable John Gendron, who led the posse that arrested suspects Norman Mawson and Jeremiah Wheaton in the murder of Otis A. Bean, posed for a photograph taken by Portland Evening Express reporters. In October 1922, Bean, a 37-year-old guide and letter carrier, was murdered near his garage in Oquossoc. Authorities arrested the two itinerant lumberjacks, found near the garage at the time of the crime, but released them months later without charges.
